The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, is a law that protects patient health information and privacy.

University Physicians, Inc., the University of Colorado Denver and the University of Colorado Hospital adhere to HIPAA legislation by establishing policies and procedures to ensure patient confidentiality and the protection of patient information.

In 1996, Congress enacted the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), to protect health information by establishing transaction standards for the exchange of health information, security standards, and privacy standards for the use and disclosure of individually identifiable health information. University Physicians, Inc., the University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center and the University of Colorado Hospital are covered components of this legislation.
