Entry-level Positions
Coding Assistant

Coding Assistants provide administrative support to one or several coding professionals. This entry-level position is an excellent fit for individuals looking for exposure to the coding profession. A 10-key test is required.

Coder
Coders perform basic ICD-9 and CPT coding for assigned outpatient clinical departments. This entry-level position is great for individuals embarking on a coding career. Strong knowledge of medical terminology is required. Physician billing experience is preferred. CPC or equivalent experience a plus. Completion of a medical coding test will be required.

CM Edit Coder
CM Edit Coders perform ICD-9 and CPT coding for claim edits. Strong knowledge of medical terminology is required for this entry-level position. Physician billing experience is preferred. Completion of a medical coding test will be required.

Mid- to Senior-level Positions
Coding Specialist 

Coding Specialists perform detailed ICD-9 and CPT coding for multiple specialties, including procedures and surgeries. This is an excellent position for individuals looking to expand their coding career. A minimum of two years experience in physician coding is required. CPC or equivalent experience required. Completion of a medical coding test will be required.

Chart Abstractor
Chart Abstractors perform detailed ICD-9 and CPT coding for inpatient stays and/or procedures. This is a great position for those seeking a challenge in their coding career. A minimum of three years experience in physician coding is required; one year must be chart abstraction/procedural coding. CPC or equivalent experience is required. Completion of a medical coding test will be required.

Team Lead Coding Specialist
Team Lead Coding Specialists provide leadership to the coding team and perform detailed ICD-9 and CPT coding for multiple specialties, including procedures and surgeries. Some college is preferred. A minimum of three years experience in physician coding is required. Multi-specialty coding is preferred. CPC or equivalent experience required. Completion of a medical coding test will be required.

Application & Coding Analyst
Application & Coding Analysts act as a liaison for multiple computer applications in a healthcare environment. Applicants must have strong PC and problem-solving skills. College course work or a degree preferred. Experience in computer applications required. CPC or equivalent experience required. Completion of a medical coding test will be required.

Coding Supervisor
Coding Supervisors have expertise in ICD-9 and CPT coding and provide guidance and supervision to coding staff. A minimum of three years supervisory experience in professional healthcare billing is required. CPC certification required. Completion of a medical coding test will be required.

Coding Manager
Coding Managers have expertise in ICD-9 and CPT coding and work to implement business practices. A minimum of five years experience related to professional healthcare billing and supervisory responsibilities is required. A college degree or some college course work in healthcare administration is required. Multi-specialty coding preferred. Coding certification a plus.

Senior Manager
Senior Managers provide expertise in business plans and processes to ensure success. A minimum of five years experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in an academic setting, is required. A minimum of three years experience in supervisory or management of a large staff required. A bachelor’s degree required. Coding certification a plus.

Coding Director
Coding Directors have expertise in coding, business plans and department finances. A minimum of five years experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in an academic setting, with knowledge of multi-specialty coding is required. A minimum of three years of management experience and departmental financial responsibilities is required. A bachelor’s degree required. Coding certification a plus.
